Fashionable Living on the Fringe

The Brunch Report

The Brunch Report is a Monday recap of my weekend activities including who I saw, where I went and of course, what I wore.

Well, friends. It was quite a weekend. The weather and my ex-husband conspired to put a damper on my spirits, but it simply couldn’t be done. Good friends, good food and great fashion will always prevail!

I dressed for my date on Saturday in a lovely light coral Floral Ruffled Challis Sundress from Torrid. The weather was awful, so I added a white 3/4 sleeve cardigan to give myself a bit more coverage. I really wish this rain would go away. I’ve got too many cute and flirty sundresses hanging in my closet that are just dying to be worn!

Not Saturday Night (same outfit though)

Open Letter to a Ghost

To My Ghost,

I’m not going to demonize you for what you did. You probably don’t even realize that cutting off all contact between us with zero explanation has a catchy pop culture term. “Ghosting” is common for people who originally met through digital means and this isn’t the first time it has happened to me. I’ll admit your sudden disappearance hurt a little more than usual. I thought our first two dates had been great and we already had plans for a third. There were no red flags or warnings that I could see. I can only assume you’ve met someone else who has commanded your full attention. That, or you’re dead. I would rather imagine you happy with someone else than dead, so let’s stick with the original theory.

NYFW: Early Buzz

New York Fashion Week is here!

And while the runways have been hot, a lot of the buzz is happening away from the official NYFW’s shows – some of it’s not even happening in New York!

Saint Laurent

The stars showed up en masse for the Saint Laurent Show at the Palladium in Los Angeles. GQ floated the rumor that it might be Hedi Slimane’s last show as Creative Director. Things that make you go, “Hmm…” I’m dying over the gold boots and other metallic pieces – you can never have too much glitz and glam for my taste. It was all very rock n’ roll, complete with a performance by Joan Jett at the end of the night. You can watch the entire show here.

The Yeezy show was more like a concert as West debuted his new album and packed Madison Square Garden in an event that fell outside the official NYFW scope. I don’t want to give myself too much credit, but I really think I nailed my description of Kim and Kanye’s signature style in my post yesterday. The entire Kardashian clan showed up at the Yeezy show in hyperluxe fabrics and furs in various shades of winter white while Kanye rocked a faux spray-painted tee, a homage to his mom and Kim’s dad. I’m not even sure how to describe the Yeezy line. It’s definitely interesting, but I’m going to leave this one to the professionals to parse. I know when I’m in over my head.

Nicholas K

This show might not be getting as much press, but it’s one of my favorites so far – and it was the first! Nicholas K had the 9am spot on 11 Feb and the bar was set high, in my opinion. I love the “urban nomad” look. It’s as if the Mad Max universe was suddenly very, very posh.  The brother and sister designer pair weren’t even on my radar, but now that I’ve found them, I’ll certainly be paying more attention!

NYFW: In the Crowd

New York Fashion Week is here!

Yesterday, we got the prep work out of the way so we can enjoy NYFW. Today, let’s take a look at some of the familiar faces you’ll see in the front row and in the crowd at the hottest shows this week.

Inspiration doesn’t just have to just come from the runway. The fashion industry elite takes runway style to the streets. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite fashionistas.

NYFW: Are You Ready?

New York Fashion Week is here!

Starting tomorrow the best of the best will stomp the runway and set trends we will all be following (whether we want to or not). Don’t believe me? Watch this clip from The Devil Wears Prada and think again.

Now that we understand just how important this week is to our closets and our economy, let’s do some prep!
