Day 06 – Favorite book of your favorite series OR your favorite book of all time.

Now wait just a minute… How is this different from Day Four?

This 30 Days of Books meme is just bound and determined to get me to talk about book series. I see that now.

But that’s okay, because I have the perfect book to follow up Day Five: Suzanne Collins’ Catching Fire.

Most of you are probably familiar with the Hunger Games trilogy. If you’re not, you should be. Each book is great in its own right, but I love the second book the most. Many times the second book or film in a trilogy can seem just like a means to an end to get from the first installment to the last, making it the weakest link. But I think Catching Fire is by far the strongest of the three.

Just when you think Katniss is safe and able to provide for her family, she’s ripped back into the brutal world of the Capitol’s games. The love triangle with Peeta, Katniss and Gale is sizzling. We already know the types of horrors Katniss will face in the arena, which only makes it worse. And we are introduced to a host of characters that will play heavily in the third and final book. In the first book, almost no one can be trusted. In the second book, you can’t tell who you can trust. Plus, we’ve learned from the first novel that Collins isn’t afraid to off a fan favorite, so everyone is a target. Anything goes.

But most importantly, to me, Katniss is once again a strong, female heroine. This girl isn’t sitting around waiting for someone to rescue her. She’s no Bella mooning around being depressed over her vampire crush. She’s got real problems to face. Her life is on the line. She’s kicking ass and taking names. And I like it!
